BONEY M.'S "DADDY COOL" TOPPOP PERFORMANCE ON DVD
Recently 2 brandnew double DVD's have been released in Holland with performances of the legendary Dutch TV programm "Toppop" by EMI Music. Toppop was the biggest music weekly TV show of the Dutch television in the '70's and the '80's, comparable with the English show "Top Of The Pops". Since this was the age before the video clip all the big acts of that time came to Holland in the Toppop studio and they had guests like Blondie, David Bowie, Culture Club, Donna Summer, Kim Wilde, Queen, Elton John, Smokie, ABBA and many many more top acts from this era.

In fact, this is the show all Boney M. fans should be thankful….. When Frank Farian recorded “Baby Do You Wanna Bump” in 1974 and released it under the pseudonym “Boney M.” nothing happened at first…. But at the end of 1975 the song became a hit in the Netherlands. “Toppop” wanted “Boney M.” in it’s show… but there was no group. In fact, allthough Farian had a miming group, it had just split up.

Only Maizie Williams was left…. So Farian found himself in no time a male dancer who could mime to his voice named Bobby Farrell and another lady, Marcia Barrett to perform on Toppop. It was on January 2nd 1976 that Boney M. did it’s first TV performance with "Baby Do You Wann Bump". This is a legendary TV performance because then Boney M. were only three people: Maizie Williams (who was a member from the start in earlier line ups) Bobby Farrell and Marcia Barrett.

Shortly after this performance Frank Farian found Liz Mitchell. Nine months later Boney M. would return to the Netherlands to do their first Dutch TV performance as a quartet in their classic line up: Maizie williams, Bobby Farrell, Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell.

Boney M. would appear in Toppop 12 more times and did their final Toppop performance on November 8th 1984 with their final Dutch hit “Kalimba De Luna”.
On the 2DVD-set “Toppop DVD 3&4” Boney M. is presented with their first TV performance on Dutch TV with Liz Mitchell, “Daddy Cool” from 17th September 1976 along with other artists who appeared in Toppop like Pussycat, Robert Palmer, KC & The Sunshine Band, Baccara, Status Quo, Elton John and many more.

Les Humphries, founder and leader of the Les Humphries Singers has died in December last year in England. This was announced today by the German newspaper
Bild Am Sonntag

His ex-wife Dunja Rajter and their son Danny recieved this sad news now. "Danny recieved an e-mail yesterday from his half brother Chas in which he wrote that his father died on December 26th in a hospital in Basingstoke from a heart attack after a pneumonia. More Chas couldn't say. He didn't have contact with his father in the last 22 years" says Dunja, who was married to Les Humphries from 1972 until 1976.
In recent years Les Humphries lived a quiet life in England. He only became in the news because of problems with the German fiscal authorities because of tax problems.
Les Humphries sold around 40 million records in the '70's with the Les Humpries Singers. The biggest hits are "Mexico", "To My Fathers House", "Kansas City" and "Mama Loo". Humphries also composed the title song of the German ZDF crime series "Derrick".
Prior to Boney M. Liz Mitchell played in the German cast of the musical "Hair" and after that she joined the Les Humphries Singers. Here she met Malcolm Magaron, another member of the Les Humpries singers, who became Liz's boyfriend. After Liz and Malcolm split with the Les Humphries Singers they formed their own band Malcolm's Locks and released an album in 1974.

The German video production company Nestfilm Produktion is working on a brandnew documentary about Boney M. The production team of this documentary used to be Boney M. fans and all come from the Offenbach am Main area, Germany. In Offenbach Boney M. recorded their first albums in the Europasound Studios. Back in those days the members of Boney M. lived in and around Offenbach. The filmmakers will look back at the time Boney M. spend in Offenbach.
The documentary will tell the story from the start until now and how the original members look back at their time in Boney M. and what they are doing now.
Several people have been interviewed including
members of Boney M

They also followed the arise of the musical "Daddy Cool" in London and Berlin, visited Liz Mitchell during her big German tour in November 2007 and will ask the question: "what happened to golden and platinum records of Boney M.". This is sort of a starting-point of the film, and the film makers hope to finally get this treasure in front of the camera.
This documentary/film is an independent production, and it's not an act under orders of a TV station or a company. Allthough this is a project made by real fans, it is a high quality and 100% proffesional production and is already in the works since three years.
The film is not ready yet and some shooting has to be done. According to plan, Nestfilm Produktion hopes to make the film public by the end of 2008. Hessischen Rundfunk will probably show the documentary and currently there are also negotiations with ARD and Arte.
Nestfilm is also looking for possibilities to get the film in the German cinemas. More details will follow as we know them. More info about Nestfilm Produktion go to:

Not all of Liz Mitchell's fans know of the "Liz Mitchell Let It Be Foundation".
The ABAC school of Information is the baby conceived by Liz Mitchell-Pemberton. This foundation was formed whist she was on tour during 1989. The whole concept is that Afro Caribbean children in England have been starved of the fundamental values of existence.

The 3CD compilation "The Collection" is now available in Germany. In The Netherlands it will be released on April 14th, together with the compilation "Rivers Of Babylon - A Best Of Collection". We have recieved the boxset at the Liz Mittchell Fanclub, and we are very positive about it.

The tracklisting is a true addition to the Boney M. catalogue. 17 songs haven't been released on CD before in the versions as they appear here, including several 12" versions and 7" versions. The artwork says that "Children Of Paradise" in it's 5.19 maxi version is released here on CD for the first time; this isn't exactly true, since it has been previously released on several compilations before, like on the "Ma Baker" compilation (295660 Ariola Express, 1989) and exclusive club CD "Boney M. - Golden Stars" (360537 SR International, 1996).

A pity is the fact that "Ribbons Of Blue" is presented here in the 1993 "More Gold" version instead of the original 1979 version, which still hasn't been released on CD from it's original master. But that is probably they only critisism you can say about this boxset, and our compliments go to Frank Eberlein, who selected the songs for this compilation with much care. The artwork is very "Boney M.-ish" and properly done, allthough not too spectacular. Regarding the fact that this boxset is budget priced, this is absolutely value for money (10 euros more or less). For those who didn't order the boxset yet, you can order it
here.
